There is a moment in every Giiyo Tech emerging technology workshop when a child holds something in their hands that did not exist two hours earlier — a blinking circuit they wired themselves, a 3D-printed object they designed on a computer, a robot that moves on their command.
That moment is why we do this work.
What Are Emerging Technology Workshops?
Our emerging technology workshops are intensive, hands-on sessions that introduce children to technologies that are shaping the future: the Internet of Things (IoT), 3D design and printing, blockchain fundamentals, and advanced AI applications.
These are not theory classes. Students spend the majority of every session building, wiring, designing, or programming. By the end of each workshop, every participant has a tangible project to show.
Internet of Things: Making the World Smart
Our IoT workshops introduce students aged 12–17 to the idea that everyday objects can be connected to the internet to collect and share data. Students learn to:
Recent student projects have included a simple automatic plant-watering system, a temperature monitor for a school laboratory, and a motion-triggered door alarm.
3D Design and Printing: From Screen to Reality
3D printing is one of the most tangible ways to show children that the digital and physical worlds are connected. In these workshops, students learn to:
Students have designed and printed phone stands, customised keyrings, replacement parts for broken household items, and even small architectural models of their schools.
Blockchain: Decentralising the Future
We introduce blockchain not as finance speculation, but as a concept in trust, transparency, and decentralised governance. Older students (15+) explore:
Why Emerging Tech Belongs in Children's Education
Some educators ask us: is it not too early to teach IoT and blockchain to children? Our answer is a consistent no.
The children in our workshops today will enter the workforce in the 2030s and 2040s — a world where these technologies will be as common as smartphones are now. The sooner they develop the confidence to engage with, critique, and build on these technologies, the more prepared they will be.
And beyond career preparation, there is something deeply important about children seeing themselves as potential builders of technology, not just its users. That shift in self-perception — from consumer to creator — is the most valuable thing our emerging technology workshops produce.
Join the Next Workshop
Emerging technology workshops run as part of our holiday bootcamp programme and as standalone sessions for school groups. Check our programmes page for upcoming dates, or contact us to book a workshop for your school.
