What is the Giiyo Tech STEM Summit?

The Giiyo Tech STEM Summit is Giiyo Tech's flagship annual event, a celebration of student creativity, technical skill, and entrepreneurial thinking.

Over 8 weeks, students work with mentors to design and build real technology projects. On summit day, they present to judges, parents, educators, and industry leaders.

It's not a science fair. It's a launchpad for the next generation of African innovators.

The 8 Week Program

A clear, practical sequence that helps students move from exploration to confident project direction.

1

Week 1

Digital Literacy & Online Safety

How technology works, digital footprints, cybersecurity, and responsible use. Groups create a student-written digital safety booklet for the school.

2

Week 2

Graphic Design & Visual Communication

Design principles and Canva. Students design the cover of their booklet and learn how visuals communicate ideas.

3

Week 3

Creativity, Imagination & Visual Thinking

Future thinking exercises and guided sketching to strengthen imagination and surface early project ideas.

4

Week 4

Digital Creation

Students use technology as a creative tool to develop and refine their ideas digitally.

5

Week 5

Emerging Technologies Lab

Hands on experience with AI, robotics, and 3D printing. Students interact directly with real technology and connect it to their project ideas.

6

Week 8

Project Direction & Technical Application

Students finalise their project concept, choose their format, and prepare to present clearly. Followed by 2 weeks of independent project building before the Summit.

After Week 8, students spend 2 weeks independently building and refining their projects before the Summit.

What Students Build

Past summit projects have tackled real problems with creative solutions:

  • A school attendance app using facial recognition
  • A water quality monitoring device with Arduino
  • A gamified learning platform for math
  • A community marketplace for local artisans
  • An AI chatbot for student mental health support
